Spring is in full swing, and one of the most beautiful sights of this season is the blooming of bluebells. The UK is home to some of the most stunning bluebell woods in the world, and one of them happens to be in the middle of our woodland.
Several years ago, we worked alongside our resident tree surgeon Matt to construct a giant 15-metre table our guests could dine around from a fallen tree. It took over three months to build and when it was finished, we began hosting feasts around it throughout bluebell season when the woods are awash with colour from mid-April to May.
This year during April Bank Holiday we hosted over 300 guests from across the country ranging from age 18 to 87, some of who had travelled from as far as Edinburgh to witness this unique spectacle and feast over fire in a sea of dazzling lilac.
In true Nomadic style, we brought along Michelin chef Arturo who devised a seasonally inspired four-course feasting menu which included a wild garlic arancini, nettle and pea soup with ricotta, miso glazed aubergine, ember fired spring lamb and a nomadic mess, all of which was cooked over an open fire. Executing this for over 300 guests over the bank holiday weekend was no easy feat but with the help of our amazing team and our sponsors Yeti who provided us with some incredible refrigeration, the event proved to be a huge success.
Our tables were laid by the wonderful Ash aka Nagundo Tree, a local florist who grows her own wildflowers, and we were joined by acoustic duo Teapot Travellers, who surprised our guests with some of our favourite soul music.
We even had a few overnight guests camped under the stars, drinking cups of wine and toasted marshmallows around the fire.
Bring on next year!
